Mike - I think Afterall is a good choice. Or, it has been for me: I am always confronted by the work of artists I have never heard of, contexts I hadn't considered. Most edifying, I think. It definitely looks at film and video in the context of gallery artists, or art practice. They also put out a great series of books - the One Work series. Ahh, now I am sounded like a promoter for Afterall.. You'll have to let me know what _you_ think.
I wish the library had the hard copy, but the online copy offers plenty - like the report on the Oberhausen Film Festival posted currently.
On our D2L site you will find the requirements for the next round of blog posts, due October 29. get back to me with any questions, and I look forward to reading your posts.
